David Dalseno - Violin

David began his tertiary studies at the Queensland Conservatorium under the guidance of Elizabeth Morgan. On scholarship, David graduated from University of Tasmania, Sydney Conservatorium and the University of Colorado where he has studied with a number of prominent Australian and International performers and educators.  Some of these include; Elizabeth Morgan, Jun Yi Ma, Jeremy Williams, Alice Waten, Ole Bohn, Edward Dussinberre and Karoly Schranz. He has also performed for a number of international soloists including; Feng Ning, Rudolph Coleman and Vadim Repin.

Throughout his studies, David led various chamber and orchestral groups including the Queensland Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra and University of Tasmania Symphony Orchestra where he also appeared as a soloist. David has participated in orchestral programs with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.  He has performed as concertmaster and principal player in various Australian Youth Orchestra programs and a guest principal player at the San Francisco Conservatory and the Juilliard School.

In 2014, David completed a two year teaching residency at the University of Colorado, Boulder, USA. His role at the university involved tertiary level violin teaching and coaching chamber ensembles.  David also travelled to Colorado with his Australian string quartet, the Orava Quartet. Throughout this period, they were mentored by the world renowned Takacs Quartet.

As a musician, David has travelled extensively; he has toured throughout the USA, China, Germany, Holland, Denmark, France and the UK. Some of his highlights include performances at; Konzerthaus Berlin, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and New York City’s Lincoln Center.

Since returning to Australia, David and the Orava Quartet have continued their impressive and rapid rise to national attention, earning a reputation for consistently excellent and thrilling performances. Alongside performances for Camerata - Queensland's Chamber Orchestra, where they are Artist-in-Residence, they have performed at major festivals which include return engagements at the Australian Festival of Chamber Music and Huntington Estate Music Festival; the BBC Proms Melbourne (for which they were named one of the ‘2016 Arts Highlights of the Year’ by arts luminary, Robyn Archer); Queensland Music Festival, Melbourne Festival (where they were again one of the ‘Top 10 Picks’ of the Festival, in the Herald Sun), the Musica Viva Festival and Bangalow Festival, where they are Quartet-in-residence.

 Hailed as ‘the future of Australian chamber music’(The Australian), in 2018 the Orava Quartet recorded their debut album for Universal Music, this was a worldwide release on the world’s most prestigious classical music label – Deutsche Grammophon - the first ever by an Australian Ensemble.

 As a teacher, David has been engaged for guest tuition and masterclasses at numerous Secondary and Tertiary institutions including the University of Queensland, and Queensland, Sydney and Melbourne Conservatoriums of Music.
